Description CoilPad Description Section
CoilPad Image

CoilPad is basically a Magnetic Sticker Actuator. It's just 0.1mm thin, flexible, and sticks to things. Flat or curved, just stick a CoilPad onto any smooth surface, add a magnet, and watch it swing. You can also hack it into the thin buzzer, micro-heater, or metal-detector!

The coil can be stuck on a curved surface, with an 18mm maximum bending radius. The adhesive used on the backside is 3M467. Its cover can be peeled off using a pair of tweezers. Always clean the surface before sticking the actuator, and it is very important to peel off the cover before powering on the coil; otherwise, the adhesive cover might get damaged.

This PCB is ROHS Compliant & follows IPC-A-600 II standard. Please note that the CoilPad is intended to be used as a DIY maker kit. For commercial purposes, please get in touch.

Some other Notes:

  • Take caution when using the CoilPad - depending on the application, it might heat up to 100°C. Keep hands away from hot regions to prevent injury.
  • The force produced by a CoilPad depends on the mechanical elements of your project, as well as the weight and strength of your magnet.
  • For smooth organic motions, we recommend using silicone-insulated wires & the DriveCell's smooth PWM library.
  • The magnetic field strength of the CoilPad can be roughly doubled by placing iron or steel underneath it, turning it into a weak electromagnet.

FAQs CodeCell FAQs
Can two CoilPads repel each other?

CoilPad can attract and repel magnets by generating a magnetic field. However, the field it creates is much weaker than the magnetic field of a magnet. As a result, the forces generated are primarily due to the magnet. Unfortunately, this means two CoilPads cannot attract or repel each other.

Why does it need a DriveCell?

Want to make a CoilPad flap or vibrate with magnets? To achieve this, you'll need transistors like an H-Bridge to flip its polarity and adjust its position. That’s why we highly recommend our compact DriveCell module, measuring just 0.8 cm wide! It can deliver up to 1.8A, giving you the power to control up to 8 CoilPads with a single DriveCell!

What ages is CoilPad suitable for?

CoilPad is ideal for anyone interested in exploring electronics! For younger users, we recommend adult supervision and guidance, as CoilPad requires soldering and can heat up to 100°C during use. To prevent injury, keep hands away from hot surfaces and always turn off the coil when not in use. Please note that the package contains small parts, such as magnet, which should be handled with care.

How fast can a CoilPad actuate?

This depends on the magnet you're using and the actuation distance you're trying to achieve, but it typically peaks at 25Hz.
