Description & Specifications DriveCell Description Section DriveCell Specifications
DriveCell module

DriveCell is a tiny H-bridge development module for controlling the direction and speed of small brushed DC motors, magnetic actuators and other suitable bidirectional loads. Its two logic inputs allow an external controller to set the output direction and adjust power using PWM.

Each standard pack includes one DriveCell module, M1.2 screws and one unsoldered 4-pin male header. A controller, power source, load, wiring and enclosure are not included.

Some other notes:

  • The DRV8837 driver includes overcurrent protection, undervoltage lockout and thermal shutdown. Supply polarity must still be checked carefully because reversing the supply may damage or overheat the module.
  • Schematics for this module are available here: DriveCell Schematics.

Safety & Use DriveCell Safety and Use

DriveCell is a low-voltage electronic development module intended for controlling small motors and actuators in DIY projects, prototypes and educational electronics. It is not a toy or a finished standalone appliance.

    • Use a regulated DC power supply and do not exceed the 5 V maximum input voltage.
    • Check the VD and GD supply polarity and inspect the wiring for short circuits before applying power.
    • Ensure that the connected motor or load remains within the electrical and current limits shown in the specifications.
    • Motor startup and stall currents can be higher than normal operating current. Disconnect power if the module, wiring, power source or connected load becomes unusually hot.
    • Secure motors, actuators and moving mechanisms before use, and keep fingers, hair, loose clothing and wires away from moving parts.
    • Disconnect power before soldering or modifying connections. Young makers should work under responsible adult supervision.
    • The supplied screws and header are small parts and should be kept away from young children.

When integrating DriveCell into a completed project, the maker is responsible for ensuring that its power supply, wiring, connected load, moving parts, mounting and enclosure are safe and suitable for the intended use.

Frequently Asked Questions DriveCell FAQs
What ages is DriveCell suitable for?

DriveCell is intended for makers, students and developers. It is not a toy and includes small parts. Children should use it only under the direct supervision of a competent adult, including during soldering and powered testing.

How do I install the DriveCell library?

In the Arduino IDE, open “Tools > Manage Libraries,” search for “DriveCell,” and install the latest version.

You can then find the available example sketches under “File > Examples > DriveCell.”

How do I get started?

DriveCell comes with tutorials and example projects. These can be found on the DriveCell Tutorials page.

How hard is it to solder?

DriveCell uses castellated pads on a standard 2.54mm pitch. It can be soldered directly to wires, a compatible PCB or the supplied unsoldered 4-pin male header.

Disconnect all power while soldering and check for solder bridges before use.
