Meet ProtoBot, your pocket-sized robot that’s is fun to build as it is to control! Powered by four torquey motor-wheels, this mini-robot is fast, smart, and perfect for hands-on learning. Bring it to life by simple soldering and screwing the parts together, we’ll guide you through every step.

Once assembled, ProtoBot comes preloaded with software so you can drive it, interact with its sensors, and shape its path. Use the free MicroLink App (Android & iOS) to control it instantly or program its actions with our block automation feature. For even more flexibility, dive into the open-source Arduino library and add more I2C sensors or displays using the included breadboard and expansion header.

Our free app is available on both Android and iOS, to pair with the robot and unlock features like:

  • Drive – Control with a joystick and move it around
  • Automate – Program actions with fun, educational blocks
  • Shape – Drive in squares, circles, or infinity loops
  • Rewind – Try & drive back the path you just took
  • Avoid – Detect and stop before front obstacles
  • Balance – Set it upright and watch it try balance itself for a few seconds
  • Dodge – Detect overhead obstacles and avoid getting squashed
  • Record – Easily add any off-the-shelf I2C sensors to keep track of your environment (like temperature, humidity or presence detection)

Designed for curious minds of all ages, ProtoBot packs sensors, an RGB eye-light, tiny motors, and an electronic brain powered by our CodeCell module. Whether you’re exploring robotics for the first time or looking for a new DIY challenge, ProtoBot makes learning smart, hands-on, and fun!

Frequently Asked Questions CodeCell FAQs
How we ship your ProtoBot?

ProtoBot has a little 170mAh LiPo battery, so it can only ship via FedEx or DHL due to regulations. This may increase your cart total, but it’s express and reliable. You can also add other items to the same shipment to make the most of it. We appreciate your understanding 😊

What ages is it suitable for?

ProtoBot comes as a fun maker kit that you can transform into a cool robot, designed for curious minds of all ages. Younger kids can join in too with a little help from an adult, especially when using the app. The robot comes with an easy-to-use educational App and for those interested, clear Arduino examples that make coding simple for beginners.

Assembly does involve some soldering, so children under 12 should only build it with adult supervision. Please note that the kit contains small parts, such a LiPo battery and screws, which may pose a choking hazard and must be kept out of reach of young children.

How to update the Software?

ProtoBot works seamlessly with our MicroLink App, letting you drive it and update the firmware whenever new software is released. For those who want to dive deeper and customize its behavior, you can install the ProtoBot Arduino library - just follow the installation steps in our User Guide.

We are continuously updating and adding new features to this library, so make sure you're using the latest version.

Is it Maker-Friendly?

ProtoBot is designed with makers in mind! Its shell and accessories can be 3D printed at your home, and you can expand its capabilities by adding more I2C sensors, displays, or other electronics using the breadboard attachment. This lets you customize your robot, make it smarter, and adapt it to your own projects. It also comes with an open-source Arduino library built around our tiny CodeCell module (available separately in our store), making upgrades and part replacements easy.

Inside the box, you’ll find all the robot parts along with step-by-step instructions to guide you through the fun build.
